Cultural Center

I had a very good experience to the day I went to the Cultural Center. I have never been there before. It was interesting for me to see all work that made from Christine Tarkowski and Angel Otero. The first impression I had of Tarkowski works, was she focus in one topic, which was her life alone with Cancer. The painties were pretty same. It trasparated to me how sad she was in this moment. My favorite painting was "Some Days Few So Alive" .My question is,was she always alone??? Before found she had cancer,it was someone in her life?

  1. I do not think it really matter if she had someone in her life before the sickness or not. I think it just amazing to see how she painted her despair and relation to the sickness.

  2. Angelica,
you are mixing up artists a little in your post. Tarkowski is the first exhibit we saw, the one with the big cardboard sculpture.
Hollis Siegler was the one you are referring to. It is interesting that you say the paintings were all pretty much the same. Why do you think that is? Do you think she just found her style and that was it? Did she just not experiment enough? Or what effect does this repetition have? You also ask about people. That, too is an interesting question, for the work certainly draws attention to the fact most of these rooms are void of people. Where are you, the viewer in relation to this work? Are YOU the "people" in the work? Are you staring into this miniature private world of hers?
